January has really flown by hasn't it? (Generic end of month quote I know). I haven't even started my New Years Resolutions properly, and yet here we are on the 4th day of the second month. Whoops. January has had its ups and downs for me, but chatting aside, here are the products and random things that got me through the month of Jan...
This is what dreams are made of. Literally. This stuff makes taking off your makeup something to look forward to and is so so relaxing when you do. It's the perfect balmy texture to give your face a good old massage, and then you simply wipe it all off using a warm flannel or muslin cloth. I prefer a flannel as it holds the heat a bit longer meaning you get that warm dreamy face steam for a little longer. Another pro is that it gets rid of everything, and I mean everything. At fancy dress parties/nights out at Uni, face paint can regularly occur and can be a nightmare to get off (Yes, it does stain and yes, I have gone to Uni with a slightly yellow tinged face after a night out dressed as a Minion before) but this stuff is the bomb at budging any pesky paint or even the thickest of mascara layers. It retails at £22 which can seem a little steep compared to your standard £3 face wash but it's seriously worth the money. You barely need any product, I've had this about two months now and have yet to make a dent it in. Go on, you know you want it.
You know those days when your makeup needs a mid-day pick me up or your skin is feeling just generally crap? This sorts you out just fine. A few spritzes and you're well on your way. I've been loving using this after cleansing, morning and night, to make my skin feel refreshed and well, just lovely in general. It also claims it's an anti-spot toner kind of deal, as it contains anti-bacterial ingredients and things like that. This is the bigger of the bottle options at 500ml which will cost you £7.95 but they also do a 250ml bottle for £4.25 if you're wanting to try it out or use it for travelling.
A fairly new addition to the skincare routine, but a very well loved one all the same. This stuff is aimed at fading scars and improving skin tone. I've been using this every night after my toner for around a month or two now and I have honestly seen an improvement. My skin tone does indeed look a little brighter. I have yet to seen any improvement in the scarring I've got from some pesky acne as a teen, but I figure that will take a bit longer to fade as they're older. At £22, it's a little pricey for a mere 30ml but again it's one that'll last you a while.
One of the 'shopping my stash' re-discoveries of the month is the b-e-a-utiful mineral powder from Laura Mercier. At £31, this stuff isn't cheap but boy is it good! It's surprisingly high coverage for what is basically a loose powder. I use it as a foundation due to the high coverage and then just a bit of concealer to perfect the look. I'll pop a post up soon showing you this on so you can get a better idea of what it looks like. I went back to using this after my skin went through, and is still going through, a bit of a bad spell as my normal liquid foundation just wasn't cutting it. It's seriously that good.
This has been a firm favourite of mine since I picked my first tube up in Paris way back in 2011. I remember browsing the MAC store on the Champs Elysee and spotting a beautiful pinky-nude sitting happily at the back of the rows and rows of colours. I picked it up and thought the name was very fitting considering my location and I haven't looked back since. I think I'm onto my third or fourth tube of this now and it's honestly, hands down, my favourite lipstick ever. It's the perfect 'whack on without a mirror and still look great' colour and texture. If you haven't already got it, then get it. You won't regret it I promise.
Ahhh, the perfect lilac colour. The formula of these is just perfect and they glide on like a dream. I think I've got about 6 of the gelly ones in various colours and they're all amazing. These are very reasonably priced at just £3.99 each, and are often on 3 for 2 or some kind of offer, so you don't feel too guilty about buying a few in one go. I just had a quick peek on the website and it seems there are now over 30 different colours, I may need to take a trip to Superdrug sometime soon...
And finally, a few random favourites. I don't have any pictures of these so I'll just list them for you now but next month I promise some random pictures too.
First up is the film The Grand Budapest Hotel. This has been out quite a while now, but I recently re-watched it on DVD on a trip home for the weekend and I fell back in love with it. Not only does it have a host of seriously amazing actors, but it also boasts a great, gripping storyline and some funny moments too. I admit, it may not be to everyone's taste but it's worth a go, especially if you're a fan of any of the amazing actors in it. It's also got 92% on Rotten Tomatoes which is a pretty good rating!
Secondly is caramel hot chocolate. Weird I know, but as it's been all cold and snowy here, I've been hooked on warm drinks that just make you feel good whilst you curl up inside watching TV. I use the standard Cadbury's drinking chocolate powder swirled into a cup of hot milk and add a dash of caramel syrup. Knowing my love of all things caramel, my boyfriend got me a huge bottle from Amazon for Christmas, the exact same type you see in coffee shops. I've also seen a smaller bottle in Marks and Spencer, so if you're not mad enough like me to get a huge bottle you can start yourself off with a little one.
Finally, I've been loving the DJ strangely entitled Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. I saw him recently play at an event at my University and have been listening ever since. If you're a big fan of electronic music, then you'll love this. If not, you may not like it but give it a listen anyway! It's always fun to get listening to a new genre of music.
